Fort Worth Plastic Surgeon Accepted into the American Society for Aesthetic Plastic Surgery
Dr. Emily J. Kirby joins prestigious medical society, which celebrates its 50th anniversary this year.
Fort Worth, TX, February 16, 2017—Dr. Emily J. Kirby, Fort Worth plastic surgeon and owner of Kirby Plastic Surgery, was recently inducted into the American Society for Aesthetic Plastic Surgery, an honor reserved for board certified plastic surgeons in the U.S. and abroad who meet the highest standards for surgical skill, training, and ethics in the specialties of aesthetic plastic surgery and cosmetic medicine.
Dr. Kirby comments on her acceptance into the society: “I am thrilled and deeply honored to become part of the American Society for Aesthetic Plastic Surgery. This group is held in extremely high regard by my peers in plastic surgery and the medical field as a whole, and the opportunities for research and collaboration that come with membership are second to none.”
Founded in 1967, the American Society for Aesthetic Plastic Surgery (ASAPS) is considered the leading organization worldwide devoted exclusively to advancing the field of aesthetic plastic surgery through research, education, and innovation.
To be considered for ASAPS membership, a surgeon must be certified by the American Board of Plastic Surgery, with a minimum of 3 years in practice post board certification, and complete at least 75 surgical cases in the 18 months prior to joining. In addition, ASAPS members must operate in accredited surgical facilities, maintain stringent ethical standards, and engage in regular continuing medical education. By including only those surgeons who demonstrate these qualities, patients can look for the ASAPS credential to identify highly qualified plastic surgeons in their area.

Dr. Kirby states that joining ASAPS not only represents an individual achievement, but also is an important step as a female plastic surgeon in a male-dominated field. She cites a recent study in Aesthetic Surgery Journal, the peer-reviewed medical journal published by ASAPS, which showed a majority of patients who have a gender preference when choosing a plastic surgeon seek out a female doctor.
Dr. Kirby states, “Knowing that many plastic surgery patients prefer a female physician, I feel a special responsibility to advance my skills and contribute to ongoing research. As an ASAPS member, I will have many opportunities. I look forward to collaborating with colleagues who share my dedication to the specialty and being a part of an organization whose mission it is to help aesthetic plastic surgeons provide the best possible care and results for our patients.”
